Potrero Hill Neighborhood House - Neighbors for the NABE

The Potrero Hill Neighborhood House (known as the NABE to community members) is a multi-purpose, multi-generational community center in continuous operation for nearly a century. It's mission is to serve those in need from the "cradle to the grave" with an emphasis on youth and education.

The Neighbors for the NABE campaign is a grassroots community fundraising initiative to help close a funding gap caused by 2005 city budget cuts which directly impacts after school and other youth programs.

After School and Summer Enrichment Program
Enrollment: 65 children, ages 6 - 13
The program offers both academic tutoring and enrichment programming by positive role models in a safe, nurturing and creative environment. The academic component provides free one-on-one tutoring to youth from low- income families. The enrichment program includes arts and crafts, recreation, music workshops, theater, cooking, community service, economic development and outings.

Experiment in Diversity (EID)
Enrollment: 20 youth, ages 14 - 18
This Cultural Education program teaches youth the value of community, theirs and others. Youth enrolled in this program are considered "Hard to Serve". These are youth that are in the Juvenile Justice system, have potential of falling into the system, out of school or failing while in school. Our program takes youth off the streets, enrolls them in school and after-school, and engages them in activities where they learn new values of community responsibility and accountability. Quarterly presentations and free community dinners are prepared by the youth in the program.
